What is an Intraoral camera?
The intraoral camera is slightly larger than the size of a dental mirror. It has a built-in light source, and serves as a tiny video camera that allows us to zoom in on one tooth with significant magnification, or give you "video tour" of your entire mouth. The images are displayed on a high resolution monitor, so you and your dentist will be able to see problems such as worn or broken fillings, cracked teeth, plaque deposits, cavities next to existing fillings and excessive wear.
Why an Intraoral camera?
We understand that it's not necessarily pleasant to come face to face with your own dental condition, but it's important to do so for several reasons. People seldom have a clear idea of the actual status of their dental health. Even with lights and mirrors, it's tough to see anything but the front of your own teeth, or segments of the shadowed backs and side areas.
Intraoral cameras have changed all of that. Now you can sit comfortably back in the chair while the dentist inserts a camera-tipped wand into your mouth. Covered with a disposable plastic sheath for contamination prevention, the wand simply takes a video of the inside of your mouth and transmits the images to a computer monitor. Aha! Suddenly both you and your dentist are able to view and discuss every last detail of your oral health together.
